[dʌn'seɪnɪ], Edward John Moreton Drax Plunkett ['plʌȖkɪt], 18. Baron, bekannt als Lord Dunsany [lɔːd-], angloirischer Schriftsteller, * London 24. 7. 1878, ✝ Dublin 25. 10. 1957. Dunsany schrieb auf Wunsch von W. B. Yeats Dramen für das Abbey Theatre in Dublin; kämpfte im Osteraufstand (1916) für England. Er behandelte in den meisten seiner Dramen und Erzählungen romantische und exotische Stoffe, wobei er eine selbst erfundene Mythologie verwandte.
 
Werke: Romane: The king of Elfland's daughter (1924; deutsch Die Königstochter aus Elfenland); The charwoman's shadow (1926; deutsch Der Schatten der Scheuermagd).
 
Erzählungen: The gods of Pegana (1905); The curse of the wise woman (1933; deutsch Der Fluch der weisen Frau); Jorkens borrows another whisky (1954; deutsch Jorkens borgt sich einen Whisky).
